# Projects & files

> Create and manage projects, move files in and out, and attach catalog entries over the API.

Projects hold the data, files, and knowledge Addison works from. Everything an Addison conversation can see is scoped to one project, so most integrations start here: create or find a project, put files in it, attach the tables you want visible.

Product-side docs: [Projects](/features/projects). Excel workbooks and HTML artifacts are ordinary project files: read and write them with the file-content endpoints below, not a dedicated API. See [Excel](/features/artifacts/excel) and [HTML](/features/artifacts/html).

## Open and edit

<Card title="GET /v1/projects/{project_id}/files/{file_id}/content" icon="code" href="/api-reference/files/download-file-content" horizontal>
  Download the workbook's content.
</Card>

<Card title="PUT /v1/projects/{project_id}/files/content" icon="code" href="/api-reference/files/write-file-content" horizontal>
  Create or overwrite the workbook's content. Send the binary `.xlsx` with `encoding: "base64"` (raw bytes corrupt the file), and supply exactly one of `path` or `file_id`.
</Card>

## Manage as a file

<Card title="GET /v1/projects/{project_id}/files/{file_id}/content" icon="code" href="/api-reference/files/download-file-content" horizontal>
  Download the workbook.
</Card>

<Card title="DELETE /v1/projects/{project_id}/files/{file_id}" icon="code" href="/api-reference/files/delete-file" horizontal>
  Delete the workbook. Requires `confirm=true`.
</Card>

## Open and view

<Card title="GET /v1/projects/{project_id}/files/{file_id}/content" icon="code" href="/api-reference/files/download-file-content" horizontal>
  Download the page's HTML.
</Card>

<Card title="PUT /v1/projects/{project_id}/files/content" icon="code" href="/api-reference/files/write-file-content" horizontal>
  Create or overwrite the page's HTML.
</Card>

## Manage as a file

<Card title="GET /v1/projects/{project_id}/files/{file_id}/content" icon="code" href="/api-reference/files/download-file-content" horizontal>
  Download the page.
</Card>

<Card title="DELETE /v1/projects/{project_id}/files/{file_id}" icon="code" href="/api-reference/files/delete-file" horizontal>
  Delete the page. Requires `confirm=true`.
</Card>

## Files

<CardGroup cols={2}>
  <Card title="GET /v1/projects/{project_id}/files" icon="code" href="/api-reference/files/list-or-search-files" horizontal>
    List or search files.
  </Card>

  <Card title="GET /v1/projects/{project_id}/files/{file_id}" icon="code" href="/api-reference/files/show-file" horizontal>
    Show a file's metadata.
  </Card>

  <Card title="GET /v1/projects/{project_id}/files/{file_id}/content" icon="code" href="/api-reference/files/download-file-content" horizontal>
    Download a file's content.
  </Card>

  <Card title="PUT /v1/projects/{project_id}/files/content" icon="code" href="/api-reference/files/write-file-content" horizontal>
    Create or overwrite a file's content.
  </Card>

  <Card title="DELETE /v1/projects/{project_id}/files/{file_id}" icon="code" href="/api-reference/files/delete-file" horizontal>
    Delete a file. Requires `confirm=true`.
  </Card>
</CardGroup>

## Default project

<Card title="GET /v1/projects/default" icon="code" href="/api-reference/projects/show-default-project" horizontal>
  Get your default project.
</Card>

## Find and open a project

<Card title="GET /v1/projects" icon="code" href="/api-reference/projects/list-projects" horizontal>
  List projects.
</Card>

<Card title="GET /v1/projects/{project_id}" icon="code" href="/api-reference/projects/show-project" horizontal>
  Fetch a single project.
</Card>

## Create a project

<Card title="POST /v1/projects" icon="code" href="/api-reference/projects/create-project" horizontal>
  Create a project.
</Card>

## Rename or edit a project

<Card title="PATCH /v1/projects/{project_id}" icon="code" href="/api-reference/projects/update-project" horizontal>
  Update a project's name, description, or visibility. Changing **visibility** requires that you be an Owner or Manager. `visibility` accepts only `private` or `public`; setting it `public` shares the project org-wide with **Editor** access. There's no view-only option on this endpoint, so use the Share dialog for org-wide read-only.
</Card>

## Delete a project

<Card title="DELETE /v1/projects/{project_id}" icon="code" href="/api-reference/projects/delete-project" horizontal>
  Delete a project. Requires `confirm=true`.
</Card>

## Import

<CardGroup cols={2}>
  <Card title="POST /v1/projects/{project_id}/files/uploads" icon="code" href="/api-reference/files/create-a-presigned-upload" horizontal>
    Create a presigned upload.
  </Card>

  <Card title="POST /v1/projects/{project_id}/files/uploads/{upload_id}/finalize" icon="code" href="/api-reference/files/finalize-a-presigned-upload" horizontal>
    Finalize the upload.
  </Card>

  <Card title="POST /v1/projects/{project_id}/files/{file_id}/imports" icon="code" href="/api-reference/files/import-file-through-agent-workflow" horizontal>
    Import the finalized file into an analyzable table, required before a CSV can be queried. The curated MCP tool is `import_file_to_table`.
  </Card>

  <Card title="POST /v1/projects/{project_id}/catalog-entries" icon="code" href="/api-reference/catalog-entries/attach-table-or-view-to-project-catalog" horizontal>
    Attach a table or view to the project's catalog.
  </Card>

  <Card title="GET /v1/projects/{project_id}/catalog-entries" icon="code" href="/api-reference/catalog-entries/list-project-catalog-entries" horizontal>
    List the tables and views attached to the project.
  </Card>

  <Card title="POST /v1/projects/{project_id}/catalog-entries/{catalog_entry_id}/refreshes" icon="code" href="/api-reference/catalog-entries/refresh-project-catalog-entry" horizontal>

  </Card>
</CardGroup>

Attaching a data connection links an existing **tenant-wide** table or view into the project's catalog (the curated MCP tool is `attach_catalog_entry`):
